Patrick joined Collyer Bristow as an IP partner in 2006. In 2008 he became head of the Dispute
Resolution department. He is ranked in both the Legal 500 and in Chambers, where clients have
described him as "helpful and knowledgeable."

Intellectual Property disputes and agreements: including trade marks, copyright, designs,
patents, confidential information, databases and passing off.
General commercial and IT litigation and other dispute resolution. Extensive experience of
mediations.
Patrick also advises on IP strategy management, including identifying exploitation opportunities
and infringement risk issues, and has conducted several IP audits.
Work and Clients
Recent court cases include the successful defence of a trade mark infringement claim at first
instance and in the Court of Appeal. Winning a trade mark opposistion appeal. He is also advising a
major online retailer on a variety of trade mark issues. Patrick has also led mediations in an IT
contract dispute and an architect's copyright dispute. He advised a major Chemicals multi-national
on an IP audit, with strategy, management and training issues.
Publications
Patrick has written numerous articles for the specialist and general press on
copyright(including architect's copyright), trade mark and related matters. He speaks regularly at
IP seminars and lectures to students of the Institute of Trade Mark Agents. He also writes
consultation papers and articles for the London Solicitors Litigation Association (LSLA).

Most entertaining deal/case
Obtaining an injunction in Belfast (a story in itself) for a well known US Brewery. The
orderspecified destruction of the infringing goods, but sadly drinking the stuff was not an
option.
Interests outside work
Rediscovering the fun and excitement of life with my young daughter, and staying healthy to
enjoy it.
