Visions in Colour

Seven artists from Scotland: three figurative, two landscape and two abstract painters, are brought together in this exhibition to reflect contemporary Scottish talent.

Visions in Colour features two recent graduates, Nick Logan from Glasgow School of Art and Molly Garnier from Edinburgh School of Art. Since graduating both have been a runaway success with Nick Logan winning a major Scottish painting prize and Molly Garnier having shows back to back in both London and Scotland in the past six months. Molly Garnier moody nudes are fast becoming highly collectable artworks. We are fortunate to be exhibiting a series of small nudes of the artist specially painted for the Collyer-Bristow gallery.

The five other artists are more established Scottish artists. They include Douglas Davies, a landscape painter, who lives and works in the beautiful conservation village of Skirling near Biggar, in the Borders area. His studio is also a gallery and is housed within a former coaching inn, part of an 18th century farmhouse. John Lowrie, another landscape artist, is an award-winning painter and is one of the most promising artists to emerge from Scotland in the past decade. He works far away from the Scottish art centres in the tiny fishing village of Crail. Liz Douglas from Silkirk and Louise Ritchie from Glasgow will also be exhibiting. Both artists are abstract painters and will be exhibiting paintings that use mixed media and strong colours.

The most established artist in the show is Joe McIntyre. Born in Dundee, Joe has received several prestigious scholarships including that of The Royal Scottish Academy and has lectured in Fine Art since 1972. Inspired by the evocative paintings of the American artist Edward Hopper, Joe masterfully creates his atmospheric observations of everyday city life with characteristic richness and warmth. Many of his colourful street scenes were painted especially for Visions in Colour

Visions in Colour runs from Thursday 5 February 2004 until 15 April.

Viewing at the Collyer-Bristow Gallery is by appointment only. Please telephone Harriette McGinlay on 020 7468 7219 for assistance.
