Alex is a senior member of our Media and privacy team. His primary expertise is in defamation, privacy and media-related litigation with a particular emphasis on social media and online reputational issues.
Alex has worked on many libel claims, helping to secure favourable settlements for clients. He acted for international cricketer Chris Cairns in his successful libel claim against Lalit Modi, in what was the UK's first Twitter libel trial.
Alex has substantial expertise in disputes involving internet publications, including removing defamatory comments from numerous websites and identifying individuals that publish defamatory comments online but seek to hide behind anonymous pseudonyms.
Alex has acted for clients in relation to urgent privacy and harassment matters, including successfully obtaining an anonymised “revenge porn” injunction preventing the distribution of intimate photographs of a client.
Alex has also represented several claimants in the phone hacking litigation against News Group Newspapers Ltd., the publisher of the now defunct News of The World, and against Mirror Group Newspapers Ltd., the publisher of the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and the People.
Alex has conducted a number of general commercial disputes for a wide range of clients (including artists, corporates and animal welfare organisations), bringing and defending claims for breach of contract and in tort.
Alex is a member of the Media Society, Lawyers for Liberty and Lawyers for Media Standards.
