Profile

Rich is a Dispute Resolution Partner whose practice covers a wide variety of banking disputes and general commercial disputes, as well as international arbitration.

Rich read law at Oxford University, before training and qualifying at Hogan Lovells, where he practised in their Commercial and Banking Disputes group. Rich has advised on numerous high value financial and corporate disputes acting for both investment and retail banks, investment funds, asset managers, accountancy firms, family offices, individual bankers and a number of other diverse clients in a variety of jurisdictions, including the US, BVI, Georgia, Singapore, the Middle East and India. He has also advised on regulatory enforcement proceedings in relation to the FSA and FCA, as well as the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) in France. He has also provided advice in respect of numerous sanctions regimes.

In addition to financial institutions, his extensive commercial disputes experience covers disputes in the pharmaceutical, property, data protection and big data, media, defamation, energy, technology and licensing fields. His contentious tax experience includes a seminal HMRC dispute regarding corporation tax and transfer pricing.

Rich also has detailed experience in the thriving Fintech scene, both in the UK and abroad.  His experience includes a major contractual dispute for a Fintech market leader, a complex breach of contract claim for a leading e-payment company and a copyright claim relating to key IP. He regularly advises on a range of litigation risks and commercial issues unique to Fintech companies, and has advised a range of e-payment companies, banking apps, fintech social media platforms and leading neo banks and lenders.

Rich has spent time on secondments to a major retail bank, a leading global motor company and the UK’s oldest life assurance company. Clients have commented on his “highly commercial” approach, going to “great lengths” to understand how the business operates and what the client needs, so that he can advise on the most commercial and cost-effective way of achieving this.
