Collyer Bristow has advised the owners of London's largest independent decorators' merchant, Leyland SDM, on its £82.4m sale to Grafton Group plc, the international DIY and building merchants.

Leyland SDM has 21 stores in some of London's most prominent locations such as King’s Road Chelsea, High Street Kensington, Shaftesbury Avenue, Victoria, Clerkenwell, and Notting Hill.

Founded in 1985, family owned Leyland SDM has grown from just a single store to become one of London’s most trusted decorating brands.

In the last two years, Leyland SDM has expanded its footprint with four new stores opened in Battersea, Mile End, Clapham High Street and Putney as well as opening a new Distribution Centre at Wembley.

Grafton Group plc operates over 600 branches across the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium. It operates brands including Selco Builder’s Warehouse and Plumbase, the plumbing and heating merchant.

Paul Sillis, Partner at Collyer Bristow, says: “It’s been great helping Leyland SDM, a strong London-based business, on to the next stage of its evolution.”

This deal is another addition to Collyer Bristow’s track record of helping businesses in London to reach major milestones in their development.”

Andrew Urban, the outgoing Managing Director at Leyland SDM, says: “We would like to thank the team at Collyer Bristow for helping us navigate through this complex deal. Collyer Bristow provided us with an impressive breadth of legal expertise including from their corporate, real estate, banking and employment teams.”
