Construction team comments on Brexit

30 Jun 2016

It is too early to determine the impact that Brexit will have on the UK Construction Industry. It is plain there will be a period of uncertainty until the terms of the exit negotiations are known.

In addition to the key concerns which are common to all areas of business, there is one issue which will hit construction companies in particular.  If the renegotiations lead to an end to the free movement of workers, one of the impacts of Brexit may be a shortage of skilled and unskilled workers given that the construction industry relies heavily on labour from outside the UK.

Another area which will inevitably change will be in the realm of public procurement.  Obviously we do not how the government will approach the law domestically in this area (and may not for some time) but UK companies will not necessarily be able to rely on principles of equal treatment when tendering for work in the EU.
