Patrick is the head of Intellectual Property and Data Protection. He specialises in the legal implications that arise from the ownership and exploitation of IP rights. He also advises on Data Protection and Data Privacy matters. His clients include businesses, individuals and other professionals, including overseas lawyers and patent and trade mark attorneys, and he deals with all issues that affect the operation of a business, specifically the rights which it owns and uses. Patrick has over 30 years’ litigation experience in the High Court, Appeal Courts, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and Tribunals including the UK and EU Intellectual Property Offices. He is focussed on achieving practical and cost effective solutions to disputes, including settlement compromises and alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation.

Patrick works with clients to bring their policies and procedures into line with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). He conducts audits of data protection and data security measures and advises on steps to reduce the risk of a data breach and enforcement measures by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Patrick has extensive experience of commercial agreements which relate to or arise from the transfer or exploitation of IP and IT rights, including assignments, licences, and research and development agreements. He advises businesses on and carries out IP Audits to identify and protect their IP rights and highlight the risks of misuse. He also has experience of bringing and defending claims involving allegations of anticompetitive conduct in violation of Articles 101 and 102 of the TFEU, particularly in the arena of intellectual property. Patrick delivers seminars and provide materials to businesses which need their staff to be trained on IP and data protection matters. He also works with other professionals to assist with the valuation of IP rights and corporate structure reorganisations to achieve tax-efficient solutions.

Patrick is the Treasurer and a committee member of the London Solicitors Litigation Association (LSLA). He is also a member of the Chancery Court Users’ Committee, the International Trademarks Association Designs Committee and Brexit Advisory team, the Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and the European Community Trademarks Association.
