Rich is a partner and the Head of our Commercial Disputes practice. His practice covers a wide variety of banking disputes, fraud and general commercial disputes, as well as international arbitration.

Rich read law at Oxford University, before training and qualifying at Hogan Lovells, where he practised in their Commercial and Banking Disputes group.

Rich has advised on numerous high value financial and corporate disputes acting for clients in a diverse range of sectors, across a variety of jurisdictions, including the US, Nordics, Russia, Singapore, the Middle East and India.  His extensive commercial disputes experience covers disputes in the mining, pharmaceutical, property, data protection and big data, media, defamation, energy, Fintech and technology and licensing fields. His contentious tax experience includes a seminal HMRC dispute regarding corporation tax and transfer pricing. Rich has detailed experience in the thriving Fintech scene, both in the UK and abroad.

Recent high-profile reported work includes £multi-million disputes involving a leading accountancy practice in the ‘Big 4’, a complex fraud claim arising out of the sale of a business to a listed outsourcing and technology business, a complex trust claim relating to assets in London and the Middle East and an unfair prejudice claim relating to a major shipping company. Rich also acts for and advises a number of litigation funders on issues unique to the burgeoning litigation funding market.

His banking and financial disputes expertise involves acting for both investment and retail banks, investment funds, asset managers, accountancy firms, family offices and individual bankers. He has also advised on regulatory enforcement proceedings in relation to the FSA and FCA, as well as the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) in France. He has also provided advice in respect of numerous sanctions regimes. Rich also has in-depth expertise in contentious matters involving funding.

Rich has spent time on secondments to a major retail bank, a leading global motor company and the UK’s oldest life assurance company. Clients have commented on his “highly commercial” approach, going to “great lengths” to understand how the business operates and what the client needs, so that he can advise on the most commercial and cost-effective way of achieving this.
