Profile

William is a member of our Tax and Estate Planning team. He provides tax and estate planning advice for private clients and their families. He advises on domicile and residence, succession and inheritance and the formulation of efficient strategies for the preservation, maintenance and ultimate distribution of property through wills, trusts and charitable foundations. William’s work often involves dealing with cross border issues. This includes general trust, succession and charity law advice, often involving a consideration of overseas personal and matrimonial property regimes, reviewing existing structures and the implementation of planning, on the establishment of trusts and other asset holding structures. William’s work extends to multi-jurisdictional issues, not only for individuals in their personal capacity, but also as trustees and his work often encompasses advice to private offices, overseas banks, trust corporations, charities and not for profit organisations.

William also represents artists, collectors and custodians of art and other tangible personal property. He has advised on the title, gift, licensing, bailment, charge, import, export, purchase and sale of all kinds of objects ranging from C18 Old Masters through a C20 letter archive to a monument in the Royal Parks. He has a particular interest in private archives and organised an Institute of Art and Law Colloquium at which he spoke on tax and succession issues in relation to works deposited on long term loan. William has also contributed articles to a range of publications on art and heritage matters.

William is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, the Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists, the Professional Advisers to the International Art Market and the Charity Law Association.
