Tax and estate planning

Our team has a wealth of experience in all aspects of tax and estate planning. We pride ourselves on providing practical and intelligent advice focused on the individual needs of each of our clients.

How we can help you

We can assist you in ensuring that your assets are preserved for future generations, taking into account issues such as taxation, marital breakdown, financial immaturity, mental incapacity and providing for disabled beneficiaries. Our partners act as professional and experienced trustees and executors when needed, supported by our in-house accounting and tax compliance teams.

We advise on all UK taxes and on cross-border issues where another jurisdiction is involved.  We have specialisms in advising on tax residence, the taxation of resident non-domiciled individuals and tax efficient ownership of UK property.  We also advise where tax matters have become contentious.

Our tax and estate planning advice forms part of our broader range of services for private clients, including real estate, matrimonial, immigration and reputation management.

For international matters, we benefit from our Geneva office and coordinate our advice with that received from advisors in other legal jurisdictions, providing an integrated global service to our clients.

“James Badcock heads the private services team at Collyer Bristow LLP, where other names to note are the ‘very competent’ Daniel Simon and William Hancock. Hancock advises on domicile and residence, succession and inheritance, and the formulation of efficient strategies for the preservation, maintenance and ultimate distribution of property through wills, trusts and charitable foundations.”

“Much of the team’s work is cross-border, and it has particular expertise in trust structures and specific jurisdictions such as Switzerland, the US, Russia and Egypt. The group is currently advising on a structure involving three separate trusts (both onshore and offshore) and more than ten underlying companies in various jurisdictions. It also remains the long-term adviser to an ultra-high-net-worth family with six offshore trusts and numerous underlying companies involving very valuable assets in multiple jurisdictions.” Legal 500 2017, Personal tax, trusts and probate
